Furniture delivery in London, from collection to the right room
A furniture delivery begins before an item reaches the van. Collection rules, dimensions, access and the destination room all need attention. BestMove offers furniture delivery in London for items such as sofas, beds, tables and storage furniture. Describe what you have bought or need moved, then agree the collection and handling arrangements for the actual piece rather than a generic delivery description.

THE SERVICE
Give the furniture a clear description
Start with the item type, quantity and dimensions, including the longest and widest points. Send photographs that show its shape and construction, and explain any fragile surfaces or existing damage. A product name alone may not identify the load, particularly for furniture sold in different sizes or configurations. Say whether the piece is assembled, flat-packed or already separated into sections. Include additional items such as cushions, shelves, table leaves and fittings so they do not become an unplanned addition at collection. If the delivery is part of a whole property move, discuss it within home removals rather than treating it as an unrelated stop.
Confirm who can release the item at collection
A shop, warehouse and private seller may each have different arrangements for collection. Obtain the full address, a contact person and any release reference the collecting team will need. Ask when the item can be collected and whether there are restrictions on loading or entering the premises. Confirm the furniture is ready to leave before the collection is booked. Explain who is responsible for packaging and whether the item is available at a ground-floor loading point or needs carrying from inside. Use the information prompts on our contact page when preparing the details so a collection window is not confused with an agreed delivery schedule.

THE DETAILS
Measure the route into the destination
Check entrance doors, corridors, stairs, landings and the final room. Measure the narrowest points rather than only the front door. Consider ceiling height and turns that make a long item difficult to manoeuvre even where the opening appears wide enough. A room measurement is only part of the access check. If a lift is involved, confirm its internal dimensions, door opening and booking rules with the building manager. Send access photographs where they explain a tight approach. Our man and van service is useful for broader small loads, but a furniture-only delivery still needs these individual handling details before arrangements can be confirmed.
Decide whether assembly belongs in the booking
A flat-packed wardrobe and an assembled wardrobe are different delivery jobs. Explain which parts need carrying, whether assembly is required at the destination and what instructions are available. If an existing piece may need dismantling, check its construction before assuming it can be taken apart and rebuilt. Agree furniture work as a named task, including any limitations and additional cost. Explore our furniture assembly service for that conversation. Keep fixings, fittings and instructions associated with the correct item. Do not rely on a collection team to discover missing components after delivery, and distinguish transport packaging from the work needed to make the furniture usable.

MOVING DAY
Discuss protection before collection day
Tell the team about glass tops, polished surfaces, delicate legs and removable components. Ask what preparation and protection have been agreed for transport and what the supplier or seller is expected to provide. Do not assume shop packaging solves every handling issue, especially where the item must pass through several narrow access points. Photograph the item and its condition before collection where practical. Any specialist or unusually valuable furniture should be identified during the enquiry so suitability can be discussed. If you also need boxes or wrapping materials for other belongings, our packing and boxes delivery service can be considered separately from the delivery arrangement.
Plan loading access at both ends
Find out where the vehicle can stop and how far the item must be carried to reach it. Mention stairs, entrance steps, long paths, restricted roads and managed loading bays. Agree responsibility for parking arrangements and check permissions with the relevant building manager or council where required. A convenient postcode does not describe the final approach to a property. For a business delivery, confirm reception procedures and the person who can authorise access or placement. If a number of workstations or other office items are involved, compare the fuller planning described under office removals. The scope should reflect the total handling work, not just a map distance.
LET’S PLAN THE WORK
A quote based on your move.
Tell us what needs moving, where it is going and the access at each address. We will discuss the help you need and what should be included.
Make the quote describe the complete journey
Provide collection and delivery postcodes, the item list, access information and any time restrictions together. Confirm the charging basis, crew arrangements, VAT and any minimum booking period. Ask how extra stops, waiting, parking and route-related charges are treated. Tell the team if delivery depends on another event, such as receiving keys or finishing work in the destination room. If the item cannot go directly to the property, discuss storage, including the additional handling and later delivery. Get the scope in writing so you can see whether protection, assembly or another task has actually been included rather than inferred from a broad description.
Prepare the room and the delivery handover
Clear the agreed route and decide where the furniture should go before it arrives. Remove obstacles that could make carrying more difficult, and make sure somebody is available to answer questions at delivery. Check the item and any separate components against the collection details while the relevant people can clarify them. Keep instructions and fittings easy to find if assembly is planned later. Avoid making a last-minute room change that requires an unassessed staircase or tight doorway. Read our moving advice for preparation prompts, and call 020 3404 5162 to discuss your collection, route and destination. Availability and the final arrangements need confirmation for each booking.
BEFORE YOU BOOK
Your questions, answered.
Clear arrangements start with the right questions. Call us if your move needs a closer look.
Can BestMove collect furniture from a private seller?
Explain the collection address, the seller’s availability, the item dimensions and the access route when enquiring. Confirm that the seller can release the item and identify who will be present. The team needs to assess the complete collection and delivery job before arrangements are agreed. Do not assume a proposed purchase date or a seller’s preferred time is already a confirmed booking.
Does furniture delivery include assembly?
Assembly should be discussed and named in the booking where required. Tell the team which item needs work and provide the instructions or product details. Transporting a boxed item does not automatically include constructing it, removing packaging or making wall fixings. Ask for the agreed tasks and charges to be recorded so you know what preparation remains your responsibility.
What if the sofa will not fit through the doorway?
Measure the item and the whole access route before collection. Send photographs of tight turns, stairs and openings, and explain any parts that may be removable. Ask the team to assess the information before the booking is confirmed. Do not rely on a difficult manoeuvre or unplanned dismantling as a solution after the furniture has reached the destination.
Do I need to be present for delivery?
Agree who will receive the item and make decisions about access and placement. If you cannot attend, explain the alternative arrangement before booking rather than leaving the team without a contact. The person present should understand the destination room, know which components are expected and be able to identify anything that needs clarification during the delivery handover.
Can I add a second furniture collection?
Include every proposed stop in the original enquiry where possible. Give each address, item description and collection restriction so the route and load can be assessed together. A further collection may change the time, crew or vehicle needed. Ask for an updated scope and price if another item is added after the initial quote has been provided.
